Interesting social experiment

I was worried about what might happen when we took 3 actors and 3 crew from Toronto and separated them from television, cell phones, the internet, and just about everything else that makes up their regular waking day by plonking them in the middle of an overgrown coconut grove at the edge of the ocean, 25 km from the nearest sizeable town. I thought they might go crazy being out of media contact.  But in fact, it seems every time I turn around, whichever actors I’ve not been shooting are curled up in a little ball somewhere on the sprawling property, mouths open, fast asleep.  There’s Phil and Emily in a hammock in the shade, snoring quietly in a friendly embrace.  There’s Robby, sleeping hard on a twin bed the back bedroom he shares with Phil.  It’s like they are a bunch of housecats who are unconscious except for meals and play time.

This is no doubt evidence of how sleep-deprived most of us urban Canadians are.  I’m a classic case myself.  At the end of every shoot day, it’s all I can do to put my camera (Alice) away, find a free horizontal space about 6 feet long and dive headlong into oblivion.  I think I need to retire someplace quiet like this.
